This was literally my whole childhood. My mom to this day always has soaking gerdoo on the counter. The fruit pushing was constant growing up. You didn't mention that our school lunches also included leftovers in yogurt containers, pitas filled with homemade kabob and wedges of iceberg lettuce. Deconstructed salad. What we would've done for a bologna sandwich on Wonder bread! When I was in Iran earlier this year, I kept thinking about how the practice of local, organic food is such an intrinsic part of life there (especially in the north). And I was thinking about how my parents and grandparents are so healthy partially because they adhere to the principles of eating that you've described. If something has been working for centuries, why mess with it, right? Anyway, I loved reading this. Off to soak some walnuts. :)Sarahttp://sabziblog.comnoreply@blogger.com
